Mission Statement of Sistersong Inc
Sistersong Inc, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to amplifying and strengthening the voices of Indigenous women and women of color to ensure reproductive justice through securing human rights. With a mission to educate and empower, Sistersong advances the human right for oppressed women and trans people of color to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children or not as desired, and parent in safety with adequate resources. This is what Sistersong refers to as reproductive justice.
Through responsive organizing and advocacy, Sistersong leads reproductive justice efforts in Georgia, North Carolina, Kentucky, the South, and nationally. The RJ Training Program prepares activists to join or lead RJ organizing. Sistersong also facilitates BIPOC artists to create artwork that shifts culture to reproductive justice through their Artists United for RJ initiative. Their annual Let's Talk About Sex conference is the largest convening of BIPOC reproductive justice advocates. Additionally, the RJ Leadership Summit brings together leaders from all RJ groups for movement-wide strategic planning.
The RJ COVID Collaborative organizes RJ organizers to support movement needs for COVID-19 and beyond. The Trust Black Women Partnership convenes Black-led groups to advance Black reproductive justice nationally. The Southern RJ Roundtable brings together all southern RJ groups to build collective power. The Birth Justice Initiative provides essential baby supplies, BIPOC birthworker support with an RJ lens, and training to protect BIPOC mamas' health.
Sistersong also engages multitudes in reproductive justice through wide-reaching partnerships, media work, and the co-led Southeast Alliance for Reproductive Equity, which trains southern white-led reproductive rights groups to help dismantle white supremacy and collaborate with RJ groups. Sistersong's Amplify GA initiative builds RJ organizing hotspots in Georgia, while the GA Religious Refusals Cohort engages people of faith to fight religious refusal policies that deny human rights. Two grantmaking programs provide funding and technical support to grassroots groups advancing reproductive justice for Black lives or birth and parenting justice. Lastly, the Women of Color Healing Justice Consortium provides BIPOC healers to support RJ organizers through organizing work-related trauma. Sistersong's membership and fiscal sponsorship provide resources and assistance to RJ organizers and groups.
