Saint Francis Medical Center Foundation, established as a tax-exempt charity in 1980, plays a significant role in supporting the mission of Saint Francis Medical Center. As an affiliate of CommonSpirit Health, the organization's mission is to make the healing presence of God known in the world by improving the health of the people they serve, particularly those who are vulnerable. This is achieved by providing healthcare services to those in need and advocating for social justice for all.

The Saint Francis Medical Center Foundation serves as the official gift-receiving and administration agency for the hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska. It raises funds through various channels, including special events, annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, corporate/foundation grants, and capital campaigns. These funds are then utilized to support numerous healthcare programs, projects, and community outreach services offered by the hospital. Furthermore, the foundation provides funding for community-sponsored programs that align with its mission and aim to create healthier communities.

In the fiscal year 2022, the Saint Francis Medical Center Foundation distributed over $3.6 million back into the community. This financial support was extended to Saint Francis Medical Center, the Physician Network, and various community-sponsored programs. The funds also aided programs such as the Third City Community Clinic, which provides primary care and dental care to low-income residents, Saint Francis Child Safety, which promotes the use of child safety seats, and the Student Wellness Center, which offers primary healthcare services to students at Grand Island Senior High School and Walnut Middle School. Additionally, the foundation supported Project Care, which assists Saint Francis Medical Center patients in addressing medical needs not covered by insurance or existing programs.
