    Mission Statement of Ecmc Foundation

The ECMC Foundation, a grantmaking organization, is dedicated to enhancing higher education and career success for underserved populations through evidence-based innovation. With a mission to make a significant impact in this area, the Foundation supports three core focus areas: College Success, Career Readiness and Education Innovation Ventures. By employing a diverse range of funding structures, including strategic grantmaking and program-related investments, the Foundation has provided support in all 49 states since its inception.

The College Success focus area aims to boost persistence and graduation rates among students confronting systemic obstacles to earning a bachelor's degree. These students encompass first-generation college attendees, low-income individuals, and students of color. The program funds initiatives and postsecondary programs that enact systemic reforms and support services to increase student success at institutions of higher learning. It also helps currently enrolled students remain persistent towards earning a degree, facilitates timely transfer from two-year to four-year institutions, and enhances students' pathways to graduation with career-ready skills. Furthermore, the College Success focus area evaluates new research findings and publications that promote student success outcomes.

Currently, the grantmaking efforts of the College Success focus area are geared toward programs, institutional networks, research, and policy that address basic needs, improve credit mobility and transfer, enhance student-centered support, and reform systemic approaches to boost completion. Additionally, the Foundation has made substantial investments in coalition efforts working on key issues: the Basic Needs Initiative and Catalyzing Transfer Initiative. In 2022, the ECMC Foundation reassessed its strategic approach to grantmaking and investing, resulting in an expanded commitment to driving systemic change in the postsecondary ecosystem. The new strategic framework focuses on removing barriers from students, building capacity within the education sector, and transforming the higher education ecosystem as a whole, with a focus on continuous measurement, learning, and evaluation.
