Erie County Historical Society

The Erie County Historical Society, with its headquarters at the Hagen History Center, aims to captivate and encourage a wide range of individuals through captivating educational programs, community engagement, and relevant exhibits and publications. By delving into the past, understanding the present, and offering insights into the future, the society strives to preserve the rich history of Erie County, Northwestern Pennsylvania, and the national heritage.

The Hagen History Center serves as a hub for historical exploration, showcasing connections to the past and fostering an appreciation for the present and future. This esteemed institution houses a multitude of historical treasures, including more than 200 years of Erie County history, which it meticulously preserves and shares with the public. The society's extensive collection encompasses over 50 permanent and temporary exhibits, two antique vehicles, and an array of historic 2-D and 3-D items. These artifacts, donated or purchased since the society's inception in 1898, provide a comprehensive and accessible resource for all.

The society's dedication to preserving the past extends beyond its exhibits. The Hagen History Center boasts a 10,000 square-foot archives building, housing over 800 separate collections and more than 8,200 linear feet of material. This extensive archive includes various historical resources, such as diaries, letters, photographs, maps, paintings, pottery, household items, furniture, and other artifacts. The society's commitment to historical preservation and education makes it an invaluable resource in understanding the history of Erie County and its people.
